Nurse Fatigue: You Don’t Have to Be a Nurse to Experience It

Healthcare workers – not just nurses – get tired, but don’t always know why. They also don’t really want to talk about it either because it makes them feel weak. But getting tired in this profession is a very normal reaction to a constant exposure of abnormal situations. Surprisingly, getting more sleep does not fix it either. But what does happen is a gradual, insidious onset of disconnect, sarcasm, not caring and even at an extreme, burnout. Healthcare workers come into this profession because they care about people, and then often times realize they are just not caring as much as they used to Want to get your mojo back? You can! After 5 years of doing this, I am proof of it. I get up in the morning and say “I get to go to work today!” You can too!
